Keeping Your Dog Entertained Indoors

January 15, 2021

Winter is off icially upon us. Love it or hate it, we’ve got a ways to go until spring. Many of our canine patients spend more time than usual indoors at this time of year. Of course, that means Fido may not get as much exercise or activity as he does when it’s warmer out. Read on as a Spring Hill, TN vet lists some things you can do to help keep your pooch from becoming a couch potato on frigid days.

Laser Tag

Does your canine pal enjoy chasing that little red dot? This can be a fun and cute way to brighten up your pet’s day. Just be careful not to shine the light in Fido’s eyes.

Tricks

Many dogs really enjoy learning new things. It helps them build confidence, and strengthens their bonds with their humans. Fido is super cute when he knows he’s been a good boy. Start with the basics, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down . After your furry pupil has those down, move on to cute tricks, or show him some more advanced commands.

Fetch

Does your pup love running after things? You can play Fetch with Fido indoors. Just pick a place without a lot of sharp or breakable objects.

Hide And Seek

Dogs love to stick very close to their humans, and they can get quite adorably confused when their human suddenly ‘vanishes.’ Give your canine buddy lots of attention when he finds you.

Stair Run s

This is a good one for highly active dogs. Stand at the top of the stairs, holding Fido’s favorite toy, and call him. Then, toss the toy down the stairs. Your furry pal will probably grab it and bring it back to you. Your pooch can get a great doggy cardio workout this way! Just consult your vet first, as this may be too much for some pups.

Window View

Dogs love to look out the window, and watch birds and squirrels. Give Fido a good spot with a clear view.

Conversation

Fido’s favorite source of entertainment is actually you. Pay lots of attention to him! Even talking to your canine companion will make him feel loved. This will be good for you, too. Dogs make great listeners, and they never spill secrets!
