6 Things To Ask Your Groomer About

March 1, 2023

Are you considering taking your pet to a groomer? There’s a lot to be said for the convenience of dropping a dirty, stinky pup off and then picking up a clean, fresh-smelling pooch shortly after. Of course, grooming appointments are not one-size-fits-all. It’s important to talk to your groomer and make sure that you are on the same page. A Spring Hill, TN vet lists some things to inquire about in this article.

The Facility

If you can, get a tour of your furry friend’s new salon. A proper grooming salon will be very clean and well-set up. You may also want to look at the stations, especially if your canine buddy is a senior or a large breed. This will help you gauge how easy it will be for your pup to get on and off (or in and out of) the station.

Experience

We also recommend choosing a groomer that has solid experience, especially if your canine buddy needs a haircut or medical grooming. Find out what certifications the groomer has, how long they have been grooming, and where they were trained. That doesn’t mean you should never use someone who is fairly new: after all, everyone starts somewhere. However, if your four-legged pal needs special care, an experienced groomer may be best.

Prices

This probably goes without saying, but it’s always a good idea to get a cost estimate beforehand. Written estimates are a good option, especially when going to a new place.

Housing Options

Fido will likely need to be kenneled before and after his appointment. Ask where your fuzzy buddy will be housed. You may also want to find out about walk breaks. Who will walk your dog, and where?

Services Offered

Find out if the groomer offers any other services aside from standard grooming. Some dogs require additional procedures, such as anal gland expression or ear hair removal, which are considered medical grooming. Other possible add-ons include nail trims, de-shedding, and ear cleaning.

Time Needed

Groomers often run on pretty tight schedules. Keep that in mind if you’re considering adding another service, such as a haircut. There may not be time to add extras on to Fido’s appointment at the last minute. Find out how much time is needed, and book accordingly.
